Lightspeed Sports Recovery - Pollyanna Fitzgerald
Pollyanna has been involved in sport from an early age, participating in riding, hockey, netball, tennis, swimming, gymnastics and other mainstream school sports. As Pollyanna got older her love for sport continued and she competed in hockey, riding and netball. Before and during university Pollyanna took up martial arts, cycling and ice hockey.
Not happy with just participating, Pollyanna gained coaching qualifications in hockey and cycling. This led Pollyanna to do a second degree in sport coaching and sport science and later an Msc in Coaching. During this time Pollyanna was fortunate enough to be awarded a coaching scholarship with British Cycling. This led to a number of brilliant experiences and allowed Pollyanna an insight into a successful high performance environment.
Working with British Cycling steered Pollyanna down the path she is traveling today. As part of coaching Pollyanna knew she needed to understand what training individuals needed off the bike. As a result she embarked on UKSCA workshops in strength and conditioning. This led onto taking a qualification in Personal training and a level 5 sport and remedial massage qualification. The massage qualification opened up a new world to Pollyanna, which allowed her to give more to athletes than through coaching. The ability to help improve performance and help athletes get back to sport has been very rewarding.
Over the past two years Pollyanna has gained experience with Oxford University Women’s Lightweight Rowing Crew, Oxford University Women’s Ice Hockey Blues, Oxford Midnight Stars Ice Hockey Club and individuals from elite to grassroots, in hockey, cycling, triathlon and riding.
Pollyanna continues to develop herself to be able to offer more to athletes and is currently studying an Msc in Sports Therapy
