Muscle Groups

Shoulder & Arm

The shoulder is a ball and socket joint and allows a high level of mobility and movements to occur. This allows us to complete a complex array of movement patterns in everyday life and the sporting world such a reaching up to a shelf, throwing a ball, front crawl in swimming and many others. This also means that the shoulder is vulnerable to a number of injuries. The most common injuries involve the rotator cuff muscles (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis) and these are often overuse injuries. Other common injuries are dislocation of the shoulder, fractured clavicle and torn ligaments due to an impact injury such as a fall.

Forearm & Hand

The forearm and hand are used in everyday activites and allow us to complete precise movement as well as larger more powerful movements. Common injuries to this area include carpal and guyon tunnel syndrome, extensor tendinopathy (tennis elbow), flexor tendinopathy (golfer’s elbow) and fractures to the radius or wrist bones due to falls onto an outstretched arm.

Head & Neck

The head and neck are often linked to issues within the shoulders. This is due to muscles spanning both the shoulders and neck. Often people suffer from postural issues brought on by working at a desk. Often the muscles at the front of the neck can become tight and cause pain in the back of the neck. A large amount of tension can be held in the neck area and as a result headaches can occur. Massage and postural assessment is a great way at combating this everyday issue.



The back is often an area where people get pain and stiffness. The most common area is the lower back and this can be due to a number of issues such as muscle imbalances, fatigue, poor posture or biomechanics when lifting. Some issues can be quite debilitating and require careful management. Massage can help to relieve symptoms, increase mobility and identify key weaknesses or causes of back pain. Also exercises to prevent back injuries can be implemented through a well structured strength and conditioning plan

Pelvis & Thigh

The pelvis is the foundation that movement comes from. If there is a problem here it can affect the upper and lower body. Imbalances in the gluteal muscles is a common issue that can easily be rectified through massage and strength training. It is also often linked to back pain and tight hip flexors. This also can bring about hamstring issues. If treated as a whole then often these issues can be rectified or managed to reduce pain and discomfort

Leg & Foot

The lower leg and foot take a large amount of impact from daily activities and sport. Using the correct footwear, not increasing load and volume of training to quickly can all help towards maintaining a healthy and functional foot and lower leg. In conjunction with injury prevention exercises and massage injury occurence can be reduced. However some common injuries to the lower leg and foot include achilles tendinopathy, stress fractures to the foot and shins, and sprained ankle.
